In honor of US National Physical Fitness and Sports Month we welcome Mari Ruddy to join us for a live-streamed conversation on the TuDiabetes homepage.
Mari Ruddy is Director of TeamWILD, has lived with type 1 diabetes for 30 years and is a two time breast cancer survivor. She founded TeamWILD in 2008 after searching high and low for resources for women with diabetes who wanted to exercise safely and with expert guidance.
Mari is also the founder of the Red Rider Recognition Program that celebrates cyclists at the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure. Mari founded TeamWILD (which originally stood for Women Inspiring Life with Diabetes) after realizing that most of the cyclists at the Tour were men with diabetes. She wanted to support women with diabetes getting out there and getting fit. WILD continues to do this, and now also supports men!
Mari’s own athletic journey began with cycling, and she’s done multiple long-distance rides, including at a number of Tour de Cures. She branched out into triathlons and was the team captain of the 2009 WILD team who raced the 70.3 half-Ironman in Austin, TX.
