SUSAN WEINER, MS, RDN, CDE, CDN, is a renowned diabetes educator and lecturer who earned a Master’s Degree in Applied Physiology and Nutrition from Columbia University and a Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She is a medical producer for dLifetv-online, a member of dLife’s medical advisory board, and the food and nutrition expert for dlife.com. Susan authors articles for Walgreens’ Diabetes and You and has been the lead CDE for DiabetesSisters.org, an organization that supports women
with diabetes.

From her active private practice in Long Island, New York, Susan helps individuals and families achieve their nutrition and health goals. She maintains a website at SusanWeinerNutrition.com and was recently voted one of the top 10 nutritionist bloggers for diabetes education by iVillage.

Deborah is a Nursing Science and Healthcare Leadership PhD Candidate at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis, Sacramento, California. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in nursing and from Boston College with a master’s degree in curriculum development and instruction. Deborah started her diabetes career at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Massachusetts working as a Certified Diabetes Educator. She is currently employed as the ADA/AADE Program Coordinator of Sutter Health Integrated Diabetes Education Network (SHIDEN), and Clinical Nurse Specialist at Sutter Medical Foundation in Sacramento, CA. Deborah has served on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) and was recently elected President-elect of AADE and will begin her 3 year term in 2014 assuming the role of President in 2015.

Deborah’s research interests involve the use of Health Information Technology to increase access to and improve the quality of diabetes education. Her dissertation research evaluates the feasibility and impact of a telehealth remote monitoring intervention on A1C in persons with type 2 diabetes, utilizing paired SMBG testing. She is also very interested in the emerging concept of the e-Patient and how diabetes educators can collaborate with the Diabetes Online Community (DOC).

Deborah currently serves on the editorial board of Diabetes Spectrum magazine and has been a past guest editor of Diabetes Health Professional. She has served on the California Diabetes Educators Tobacco and Diabetes Taskforce, the Diabetes Coalition of California, the World Diabetes Day committee through the Sacramento American Diabetes Association. She is also a member of the American Telemedicine Association, the Health Information and Management Systems Society and the American Medical Informatics Association. She is a Jonas Scholar, Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence and recently received the Leadership, Education and Policy (LEAP) Fellowship from the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis.

Deborah is a certified diabetes educator and a clinical nurse specialist, Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management. She is also a Fellow of AADE.

Franziska Spritzler is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator who is passionate about nutrition and believes a low-carb, whole foods approach works best for many people with diabetes. Her website, Low Carb Dietitian, provides information and guidance on carbohydrate restriction for diabetes and weight management. She lives in Huntington Beach, CA, with her husband and works as an outpatient dietitian at the Long Beach VA Medical Center.

Francine Cabrera RN, BSN, CDE, WOCN has been a registered nurse for more than 20 years and a certified diabetes educator for the past ten. With experience in hospitals, home health and outpatient care, she is currently a representative of the Diabetes Interactive Network offering educational classes about diabetes care and nutrition for people living with diabetes and for professionals involved in the treatment of type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

In 2012, Francine worked with Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Eli Lilly and Company to launch My Well Planner, a new online program aimed at helping people with type 2 diabetes improve their habits, management, and health outcomes. Francine is passionate about this program, and its potential to help keep people with type 2 healthy.
Previously, Francine worked as a homecare nurse for people living with diabetes and served as the Diabetes Program Director for Philadelphia’s Parkview Hospital, where she wrote and developed the hospital’s diabetes program, which received American Diabetes Association (ADA) recognition.
Francine completed post-graduate studies at LaSalle University and is a member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators and Pennsylvania Nurses Association.
